Research Publications

I have contributed extensively to the scientific community through numerous peer-reviewed publications. Below is a selection of my critical research articles, focusing on nutrigenomics, functional foods, and the health benefits of bioactive compounds from arid-zone fruits.

  1. Vasorelaxant effect and blood pressure reduction potential of pitaya juice concentrate (Stenocereus huastecorum) associated with calcium channel blockade
    Foods 2024; 13(16):2631.

DOI: https://doi.org/10.3390/foods13162631

Summary: This study explores the vasorelaxation properties of pitaya juice concentrate and fraction one was investigated using aortic and mesenteric rings from rats.

  1. Stenocereus huastecorum-fruit juice concentrate protects against cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity by nitric oxide pathway activity and antioxidant and antiapoptotic effects
    Food Research International. 160: 111337.
    DOI: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.foodres.2022.111337
Summary: In this study, the aim was to establish the effect of a pitaya juice concentrate (PJC) on CP-induced nephrotoxicity in Wistar male rats through the identification of metabolites, determination of its chemical composition and antioxidant activity, and evaluation of the protective effect of a PJC on CP-induced nephrotoxicity in rats.

  1. Ethnobotanical, nutritional and medicinal properties of Mexican drylands Cactaceae Fruits: Recent findings and research opportunities.
    Food Chem. 2019 Dec 24; 312:126073.

DOI: https://doi.org/10.1016/j.foodchem.2019.126073

Summary: This review is to compile the nutritional and functional properties of selected cactus fruits from the Mexican drylands, as well as their use in the health, food, cosmetic, and agricultural industries in order to establish knowledge gaps and well-supported future research directions.
